Student Counselling

At Amsterdam Fashion Academy we understand that your mental health is integral to your well-being both for studying and life as a student living in a new country. It is important to seek help if you are not doing well. There are a range of ways in which you can be supported with your mental well-being. Take a look at the various options available:

  • Reach out for a one-on-one meeting with our in house Professional Certified Coach who can support you through coaching.

  • Make an appointment with your Dutch GP (huisarts) for medical support and who will be able to refer you to a psychologist/therapist.

  • Not registered with a GP here in the Netherlands and prefer to speak to someone privately? You can check the expat therapists in and around Amsterdam here or a counselling service specifically for young adults.

  • There are many apps that can also be helpful: Happify, Better Help, Way of Life, Headspace, Wysa, Calm.

  • Struggling with issues around substance abuse? Reach out to https://www.jellinek.nl/english/

  • Need advice or support with sexual health? Find support here.

Life-threatening situation?

Call 112.

Suicidal thoughts?

  • Call anonymously: 0800-0113 (from a Dutch phone)

  • For non-Dutch phones, find your country's suicide hotline.

  • Prefer writing? Seek help here.

Emergency Protocol

If you or another one of your fellow students needs urgent life threatening help and you are at school, please go to the front office to Student Support. The person there will find your Programme Leader or the Personal Development Lead, who will be able to speak with you confidentially and contact the emergency services on your behalf. In the event that the emergency services have to be called, we will also ask for your consent to contact a parent, guardian or trusted nominee of your choice.

We have an academic, study-related support program, the Personal Development Plan (PDP). To dive into the details, visit the PDP page.
